Mi'kmaq Traditional Fishing Camp
The Eel Ground Business Development Corporation, in conjunction with the
Miramichi Salmon Association, are developing and implementing a unique partnership that will serve to promote the cultural heritage of our First Nation peoples as well as promote proper fisheries resource management within the
Miramichi region.
This unique relationship is intended to provide the general public with an understanding of how traditional resource harvesting practices of
First Nation peoples have evolved into modern practices that are still rich in the ideology of sustainable resource management.
On-site
staff will provide guests with interpretations of traditional fishing practices via historic replicas of ancient harvesting methods.
Additionally, patrons of the Fishing Village will have the opportunity to experience other aspects of Native culture such as learning about
traditional medicinal plants along our groomed walking trail located
on the property.
This partnership will still provide patrons the opportunity to participate in activities of the Miramichi Salmon Association such
as the U-fish operation and other interpretive activities. Enjoy :)
